5 Things You Didn't Know About Wedding Photography

Finding the best wedding photographer is not an easy task. When you add the pressure of your fast-approaching wedding day and the thousand other things on your to-do list, the mission of finding your perfect match (as far as wedding photography is concerned) becomes almost impossible.

Don’t worry; we’re here to help you! Read on for the 5 things you didn’t know about wedding photography to be better prepared. Turn finding your wedding photographer into one of the most pleasant aspects of your wedding planning!

You may be speaking to the wrong person
When you are interviewing your wedding photographer, make sure you are talking to the actual person who will be behind the camera on your wedding day. Did you know that you may be speaking to the wrong person? Sometimes, a sales consultant (or a studio owner) takes care of discussing the details with the bride, but it is preferable to discuss the wedding photography with the photographer himself.

Not all photographers use the same software
You may think that all photographers use the same post-processing methods and you are probably right. But this doesn’t mean they use the same software! While most wedding photographers do the same basic editing (lighting and color adjustments), there are many wedding photographers that go beyond the basic editing and create true photographic masterpieces that give a unique look and feel to the images shot. Be sure to ask your wedding photographer about the styles he can achieve while post-processing the images from your wedding day.

Good photography takes time
Do you think that wedding photography services are too expensive? Think again. It is a common misconception that a wedding photographer’s work is costly. Most people think that the photographer works for just a few hours (on your wedding day) and gets paid too much for a 1-day job. That cannot be farther from the truth. It takes a huge amount of time and resources (think, expensive software) to edit and process those hundreds of images before presenting the bride and groom with the final product. Not to mention the initial investment in wedding photographers’ equipment, which can escalate to a 5-digit sum!

2 is really more than 1
A lot of brides think it is pretentious to opt for a second wedding photographer on their wedding day. While a second photographer is definitely not something you need, if you can afford it, you should hire a second set of eyes set on you behind a professional camera. A second shooter means another (unique) perspective, which will get you even more memorable moments (from another point of view) got on camera!

Not everything can/should/will be Photoshopped
One of the most common questions wedding photographers are asked is “You’ll Photoshop this, right?” While most things can be Photoshopped, it doesn’t mean they should or will be. The reason? It is too time-consuming and often photographers choose to reshoot an image instead of spending hours Photoshopping it. Have in mind that most wedding photographers apply extra charges for heavily Photoshopped images (when the bride has specifically asked for the additional post-processing).
